What is TrainMiC®?

TrainMiC® is a European programme for life-long learning about how to interpret the metrological requirements of ISO/IEC-17025 for chemical and bio-analytical measurements in many different sectors (environment, food, consumer protection, etc.).

It is operational across many parts of Europe via national teams. These teams use shareware pedagogic tools which have been harmonized at European level by a joint effort of many experts across Europe working in an editorial board. The material has been translated into fourteen different languages:  

Albanian, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Croatian, English, French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Serbian, Slovenian, Spanish and Turkish.

The vision of TrainMiC® is to improve the quality of analytical results by promoting and providing a European-wide, harmonised training in Metrology in Chemistry via a network of national providers sharing resources (materials, training systems).

In this way, it forms an open way of European collaboration. The JRC-IRMM - as a European institute - offers coordination and fosters the European dimension.

The purpose of TrainMiC® is to facilitate the training of metrology in chemistry to laboratory staff, researchers, educators, decision-makers and accreditation assessors, in order to strengthen the measurement infrastructure.  

Why get involved in TrainMiC®?

TrainMiC® provides several major advantages; it provides direct access to harmonised knowledge and access to a network of experts across Europe.

A person will have the opportunity to participate to the biannual TrainMiC® convention and be able to access a restricted information platform (containing training material and a discussion forum).

Experience shows that by joining TrainMiC®, the profile and appreciation of an individual’s training activities often is substantially increased and more respected by the outside world, as they are now seen from a broader EU perspective.

Finally, if a person is also teaching at university, he/she will also be allowed to use the training material in his/her own courses, which is of great direct benefit.

Apart from a personal interest in the matter, participants will most likely be an employee of an organisation which has a structural interest in such training activity. Typically such organisations are national metrology institutes, academia or research institutes.
