JOINT RESEARCH CENTRE
The European Commission's in-house science service
The document provides a detailed overview of a five session conference organised and hosted by the JRC in May 2012. The discussions sought to address where scientific support and new standards are needed in the key sectors of eco-industries: water resources, air quality, waste management, renewable energies and energy efficiency.
JRC's scientific and technical support to policy-making is directly relevant to eco-industries. This industry sector focuses on measuring, preventing, limiting or correcting environmental damage to water, air, soil and ecosystems, and works with renewable energy, energy efficiency and waste. (May 2012)
As the Commission's in-house science service, the Joint Research Centre's mission is to provide EU policies with independent, evidence-based scientific and technical support throughout the whole policy cycle. Working in close cooperation with policy Directorates-General, the JRC addresses key societal challenges while stimulating innovation through developing new methods, tools and standards, and sharing its know-how with the Member States, the scientific community and international partners.
