The European Commission's science and knowledge service
Mild weather favoured crop establishment but increased risk of frost damage
Temperatures since the end of November have been significantly higher than average in large areas of central (Czech Republic, Germany), eastern (Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Russia and Belarus) and northern Europe (Denmark, Poland Sweden, Finland and the Baltic countries).
In support of EU policies, the JRC develops tools and provides analyses on a wide range of vital issues such as food security, crises management, energy and environmental monitoring. The JRC also relies on the cooperation with international partners to better understand the interactions between development, environment and disasters management.
Improved weather conditions for winter crops
Temperatures from the end of October until mid-November were well above average across most of Europe, and the highest in our records (since 1975) for the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Scandinavia and the Baltic countries.
As the science and knowledge service of the European Commission, the Joint Research Centre's mission is to support EU policies with independent evidence throughout the whole policy cycle.
