The IES has co-organised a high-level African soil event which will be held in the University of Leuven (KUL) in Belgium on 4 and 5 December. The event will mark the launch of the French edition of the Soil Atlas of Africa, and the launch of a striking six week 'Africa in Profile' exhibition which will be open in the cloister of the University of Leuven (KUL) from 4 December 2015 - 29 January 2016.

At the JRC's Annual Lecture entitled: "climate services: fit for purpose?", Yvo de Boer explained the ingredients for their success. Such services have to be put in the context of people's regional relevance - even if this means extrapolating data at regional level - and the dissemination frequency of information has to be much higher. Only then will they be able to provide their crucial role of supporting the policy-making process, bringing business on board and contributing to the creation of a public awareness and understanding.

The latest MARS Crop Monitoring Bulletin, published today, reports an overall positive outlook for EU-28 crop yields: above the 5-year average and close to 2013 yields - with only minor changes compared to the May forecasts.
