We are doing science for policy
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which employs scientists to carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy.
EDGAR contains data of all greenhouse gases and air pollutants emissions generated by human activities on earth. The new website offers scientists, policy makers and citizens the opportunity to explore in detail the emissions across nations and economic sectors. In addition, the EDGAR-FOOD database, containing data specifically referring to the food production and consumption chain has been included.
EDGAR covers almost 50 years of emissions, all countries in the world, making available data starting from 1970 up to 2019, with an update regarding 2020 coming soon.
The uneven impact of the crisis across sectors may attenuate but not eliminate the disproportionally high contribution of High Growth Enterprises (HGEs) to economic activity. Indeed, such firms can help to speed-up both the recovery and the transition to a green and digital economy. However, financing and other unfavourable business framework conditions —especially for start-ups and scale-ups— exacerbated by the economic downturn and reflected in Venture Capital trends, call for measures tailored to their needs to be part of the emergency and recovery-orientated policy response.
