Calibration and QA/QC methods for custom-made low activity sources (CALLAS)

The goal of CALLAS project is the calibration of a well-type germanium detector recently purchased.
The radioactive samples need to be measured using γ-ray spectrometry, in a certified laboratory like the Radionuclide Metrology laboratory (RADMET) in JRC in Geel.

A recent JRC study reveals that from 2010 to 2018, countries made significant efforts in shifting their national biodiversity conservation strategies in favor of more and better connected protected area systems, in line with the Aichi Target 11.

Capture and transmission to determine the cross sections for neutron interactions with 155,157Gd in the thermal energy region (Gd-thermal)

Gadolinium has a large capture cross section in the thermal energy region.

Therefore, it is often used as a burnable neutron absorber in nuclear reactors to compensate for the excess of reactivity or also as an emergency shutdown absorber in CANDU reactors. The Gd-thermal project aims to perform total and capture cross sections measurements for neutron interactions with 155Gd and 157Gd in the thermal energy region.

Investigation of the use of inorganic polymers in nuclear applications: influence of irradiation (IP4NA)

Inorganic polymers are under research for use in nuclear applications such as conditioning matrix, as shielding material or as building material for nuclear facilities.
In all these applications the IP is exposed to ionizing radiation of different origins. The aim of the project is to investigate the effect of external gamma irradiation on the microstructure of inorganic polymers.
