Modelling the forest carbon budget is an essential prerequisite to assess the climate change mitigation impact of different forest management scenarios. For this reason, the JRC has been applying and testing the Carbon Budget Model (CBM-CFS3) of the Canadian Forest Sector, developed by Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) Canadian Forest Service (CFS), since 2009.

Building upon the Migration Data Catalogue, the Dynamic Data Hub is a web-based application that gives through interactive mapping direct access to single datasets.

As such, the hub helps to communicate knowledge to the public at large. Furthermore, it allows the Commission to undertake analyses in order to enhance awareness and deepen understanding of migration flows to Europe, related trends and impacts.

The Migration Data Catalogue is part of the Knowledge Centre on Migration and Demography and is a table of data sources relevant to migration and demography policies.

Each data source is listed with its summary description, the link to its web site and other metadata. The catalogue will include official EU and international statistics, as well as important data sets at Member State level.

The Global Surface Water Explorer is a water dataset developed in the Copernicus Programme. This maps the location and temporal distribution of water surfaces at the global scale over the past 32 years and provides statistics on the extent and change of those water surfaces.

The dataset, produced from Landsat imagery (courtesy of the United States Geological Study (USGS) and NASA) will support applications including water resource management, climate modelling, biodiversity conservation and food security.

The EMHIRES (wind) database is a set of data that models how much energy the current installed wind farms in Europe have produced in every hour during the last 30 years.

The methodology can be used to predict how much wind energy potential there could be at specific geographical locations throughout the EU allowing better planning and integration of renewable energy sources into the future energy grid.

The Urban Data Platform is a joint initiative of the DG JRC and DG Regional and Urban Policy. It provides an access point to exchange information on the status and trends of European cities and regions.

The JRC's National Renewable Energy Action Plans (NREAPs) and Progress Reports Data Portal is an interactive tool for comparing the renewable energy data provided by each EU Member State as required by the 2009 Renewables Directive (2009/28/EC).

Users can access and download more than 30000 raw data and 60 indicators for each country and covering 3 sectors: electricity, heating/cooling and transport.

The tool also features dashboards on current status and expected development in each Member State, as well as the impact on greenhouse gas emissions.

netBravo maps the speed, quality and access to the internet

netBravo is a free mobile application intended to map the speed, quality and access to the internet. Once installed on the smartphone, netBravo samples the radio waves and monitors the quality of wireless signals in the user's surroundings. The app records technical parameters of the signals that a mobile device is able to receive – Wi-Fi, 4G, 3G, and GSM – and as the user moves around, it feeds information to a map of Europe.
