The calls for a better territorial integration have prompted many initiatives in the EU and beyond the EU to support more balanced, place-based and inclusive approaches to territorial development.

This section gathers and compares international perspectives to territorial policies with a focus on innovation-led development strategies and dynamics that favours local ownership and sustainability.

The activities and contributions should also help to ultimately offer few international guidelines for a joint monitoring framework of territorial innovation policies (TIPs).

While in the first phase of the SIMPHS research (SIMPHS1) the market for Remote Patient Monitoring and Treatment (RMT) within Personal Health Systems (PHS) was analysed from a supply side perspective, the scope of the research was expanded in the second phase (SIMPHS2, 2011-2012) with an analysis of the demand side. The focus was set on needs, demands and experiences made with PHS by healthcare producing units (e.g. hospitals, primary care centres), healthcare professionals, healthcare authorities and patients in particular.
