EU Science Hub

Scientific tools & databases

The range of work carried out at the JRC includes the

  • compilation of databases
  • development of software and modelling tools

On the basis of our open data principles we publish tools and databases with clear descriptions for each entry here on the Science Hub.

The tools and databases are categorised by name and acronym, but can be filtered by research area, keyword and JRC institute responsible for the coordination of the particular entry.

To search specific datasets or collections, the JRC Data Catalogue opens access to our data.

The LULUCF (Land Use, Land Use Change, and Forestry) sector is part of the National Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventories that parties to the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) must prepare, with different obligations for developed and developing countries.

The Global Multi-country model (GM), jointly developed by the JRC and DG ECFIN, has been designed in 2014 to complement the model QUEST to support the EC in its macroeconomic surveillance, monitoring and forecasting tasks. It is regularly used to contribute to the Spring and Autumn releases of the European Economic Forecasts by providing model-based drivers identification of forecast of GDP.

GAP is used by the EC and the Member States to calculate the output gap, which is the key variable in the monitoring of fiscal deficits in the EU in application of the Stability and Growth Pact.

QUEST is a macroeconomic model to analyse and understand the state of the EU economy. It is developed by DG ECFIN with support from the JRC. The current version QUEST III is applied since 2007.

The EMAR knowledge base aims to synthesize the public outputs from Euratom research projects on ageing mechanisms of materials used to construct European nuclear power plants (NPPs).

The knowledge base is designed so that the research findings from all the relevant projects are presented in concise, easily accessible and navigable synthesis reports.

PTTMAM is an extensive System Dynamics simulation model of technology transitions in the EU light-duty vehicle road transport sector up to 2050. The model aims at better understanding and analysing policy options and market trends with a particular focus on e-mobility. It is a comprehensive representation of the vehicle fleet evolution in the EU, at member state level, and includes interactions and feedbacks between major stakeholders influencing the evolution of the powertrain market shares.

The Transport Research and Innovation Monitoring and Information System (TRIMIS) monitors the implementation and effectiveness of the roadmaps developed by the Strategic Transport Research and Innovation Agenda (STRIA).
TRIMIS analyses technology trends, research and innovation capacities and developments in the European transport sector, providing open-access information.

Inventory of 3Rs Knowledge Sources

The inventory of the Three Rs Knowledge Sources is a detailed inventory of 800 knowledge sources relevant to the Replacement, Reduction and Refinement (Three Rs) of animal procedures used for scientific purposes.

It should be viewed as a snapshot of the current status of knowledge sources available (the supply), and as a starting point for further analysis of knowledge sharing strategies.

The inventory covers different types of knowledge sources (e.g. organisations, events, expert groups, etc.) and identifies the ways in which these share information.

The European Unconventional Hydrocarbon Portal (Open ECHO) is an information portal developed by the European Commission using publically available evidences.
