The range of work carried out at the JRC includes the

  • compilation of databases
  • development of software and modelling tools

On the basis of our open data principles we publish tools and databases with clear descriptions for each entry here on the Science Hub.

The tools and databases are categorised by name and acronym, but can be filtered by research area, keyword and JRC institute responsible for the coordination of the particular entry. 

To search specific datasets or collections, the JRC Data Catalogue opens access to our data.

ERNCIP's mission is to foster the emergence of innovative, qualified, efficient and competitive security solutions, through networking of European experimental capabilities. The Inventory holds profiles of CIP-related experimental and testing facilities across the EU, containing 1) Basic information about the facility; 2) Services offered/Experience/Competencies/Accreditations; 3) Available experimental/testing equipment; 4) Contact points for potential customers. 


The European Soil Data Centre (ESDAC) is the thematic centre for soil related data in Europe. The maps resource presents a library of scanned maps and a collection of prepared maps derived from existing soil databases at the JRC. These include soil atlases for Europe and Africa, highlights of soil biodiversity and maps displaying the soil threats.

The European Unconventional Hydrocarbon Portal (Open ECHO) is an information portal developed by the European Commission using publically available evidences.

EUROPLEXUS is a computer code for the simulation of fast transient fluid-structure interaction problems. It is co-owned by JRC and CEA and is developed jointly by the co-owners plus the members of a Consortium (currently including EDF and ONERA), and a number of Universities. Its application field ranges from blast analysis to assess strategic building vulnerability, to safety of power plants, chemical plants, transportation (blast in tunnels, crash), maritime (under-water explosions and impacts), design of the protection of critical infrastructure against terrorist attacks.


EXITO, the exercise event Injection toolkit, was developed by the JRC in order to help the moderators of large scale, multi-party exercises. It has been designed as a communication and coordination tool to keep track of the execution of complex exercises with large number of injects and players. It enables the exchange of events and reports among users by managing a Master Event List (MSEL); massively injecting events; and collecting feedback from the exercise players. EXITO is web based and can be integrated with a Content Management System (CMS) like Drupal.

EXITO-Narrator is a web-based exercise management tool, which focuses on the story-telling aspect of a scenario, and is therefore particularly adept at driving high level political exercises.

Information on Farm Advisory Systems set up by Member States


The FATE data portal displays the geographic layers offered by the Rural, Water and Ecosystem Resources Unit. In addition, it features a simple data query interface for finding requested data and layers. There are three map types: one for nutrient pressures, nitrate vulnerable zones and for chemical monitoring.


The JRC collects and maintains fisheries and aquaculture data transmitted by EU Member States under the remit of the Data Collection Framework (DCF) regulation. The datasets are assessed by teams of independent experts participating in working groups convened by the Scientific, Technical and Economic Committee for Fisheries (STECF) whose scientific advice is used to inform the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) decision making process.

The JRC's FACET exposure tool is a downloadable software to estimate consumers' exposure to food flavourings, food additives and substances that can migrate from food contact materials into food.

It contains databases of chemical concentrations for food flavourings and food additives, industry data on retail packaging composition, chemical occurrence data or their prediction, and food consumption diaries, which are then combined into probabilistic dietary exposure models.
