EU Science Hub

Scientific tools & databases

The range of work carried out at the JRC includes the

  • compilation of databases
  • development of software and modelling tools

On the basis of our open data principles we publish tools and databases with clear descriptions for each entry here on the Science Hub.

The tools and databases are categorised by name and acronym, but can be filtered by research area, keyword and JRC institute responsible for the coordination of the particular entry.

To search specific datasets or collections, the JRC Data Catalogue opens access to our data.

This tool allows exploring scientific fishery data and economic indicators on the aquaculture fish processing and fishing sectors.

The purpose of the GMOINFO system is to publish information regarding notifications submitted from the applicants to the Member States Competent Authorities about deliberate field trials and placing on the market for cultivation, food, feed and processing, of genetically modified organisms, as defined in Directive 2001/18/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 March 2001.

DataM is the Internet complement to JRC scientific output relating to the economics of agriculture.

Purposes

DataM aims to promote the communication of JRC scientific results in the area of agro-economics through the use of the web and of interactive data visualisations.

DataM also aims to provide access to the raw datasets produced by the JRC's agro-economic research activities, in line with the JRC's open data principles.

A large number of datasets is presently available to the Scientific Community for atmospheric model validation. These data have been made accessible through web sites by the research groups that collected them or, in many cases, can be obtained upon direct request to these groups. The objective of DAM is to facilitate the access to such valuable information to any model developer or user that intends to validate his/her modeling tool.

The Delta tool is a tool for air quality models benchmarking.

The digital map archive is a collection of interactive on-line maps that can be easily retrieved through a dedicated web platform. The maps included in the archive features real-time data related to natural hazards in partnership with over 20 scientific institutions) and are very important for the analysis that follow disaster events. Currently, the archive is relying on a Map Viewer that allows to visualize and select in an intuitite way the various components. Through the interface it is also possible to interrogate databases on certain geographical constraints (i.e.

DOPA is a biodiversity information system developed by the JRC that functions as a tool for assessing, monitoring and forecasting biodiversity status and trends. It is made up of a set of interoperable web services developed by the JRC, using data from international organisations such as the World Conservation Monitoring Centre of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and the Global Biodiversity Information Facility, among others.

The JRC manages the Laboratory for Interoperability Certification, which is responsible for carrying out thorough test procedures on the digital tachograph and for issuing one of the three certifications needed for it to enter the market. The Digital Tachograph website is the reference point for equipment producers, authorities and drivers who use it as an instant source of information on the latest equipment and model certifications, public certificates (ERCA keys), ongoing field tests and new country codes.
