We are doing science for policy
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which employs scientists to carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy.
The digital map archive is a collection of interactive on-line maps that can be easily retrieved through a dedicated web platform. The maps included in the archive features real-time data related to natural hazards in partnership with over 20 scientific institutions) and are very important for the analysis that follow disaster events. Currently, the archive is relying on a Map Viewer that allows to visualize and select in an intuitite way the various components. Through the interface it is also possible to interrogate databases on certain geographical constraints (i.e. all the features within a certain polygon). These type of information are generally available in advanced Geographical Information Systems (GIS) but are now also available through a standard web interface.
