We are doing science for policy
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which employs scientists to carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy.
The Community Image Data (CID) portal is an online catalogue and archive of satellite remote sensing data. It was established by the JRC to improve the acquisition, pre-processing, access, storage and dissemination of satellite and aerial remote sensing data. It contains > 100 TB of data, including satellite remote sensing data of 0.5m resolution to time series of 1 000-metre resolution (European and global coverage). Several JRC or European Commission projects store data here, e.g. the Common Agricultural policy (CAP), Global Security and Crisis Management, selected Copernicus datasets, etc.
The main entry point to the portal is via an Internet application through which searches in the archive catalogue can be carried out. The datasets can be freely searched and previewed using the public (INSPIRE DISCOVERY service), while authenticated users have full access to INSPIRE VIEW and DOWNLOAD services. Users within the JRC have file-based access.
