We are doing science for policy
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which employs scientists to carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy.
The ACP Environmental Observatory brings together a broad range of data and information to support Commission services and stakeholders in the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) Region - http://acpobservatory.jrc.ec.europa.eu
The ACP Environmental Observatory delivers such information in the format of data, maps, indicators and additional resources (e.g. publications and web links), obtained from both within the Joint Research Centre (JRC) and external sources such as the World Bank, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
It is expected that this information will facilitate the effective integration of environmental concerns into European Commission development cooperation activities, for example in the preparation and/or revision of Country Environmental Profiles (CEPs) and Country Strategy Papers (CSPs).
The information in the ACP Environmental Observatory is primarily organised by country and by a number of themes. A wide range of development and environment topics, including human population, livelihoods, natural resources and conservation, are currently grouped under the following themes:
