JRC research topics

The JRC carries out research in a wide variety of fields. Located across five sites throughout the EU, seven research institutes work in the areas of agriculture and food security, energy and transport, environment and climate change, health and consumer protection, information society, safety and security, innovation and growth, measurements and standards, and nuclear safety and security.

  1. JRC research on nuclear energy aims to achieve a viable and diverse energy mix, limit CO2 emissions, maintain security of energy supply and energy independence, and promote economic development and employment. Nuclear power contributes more than 25% to the current electricity generation. A significant number of EU Member States rely on nuclear power in their national energy mix, as part of a long-term strategic energy infrastructure.
