Laboratories & facilities

  1. The JRC hosts several large-scale facilities for monitoring air quality as part of its Institute for Environment and Sustainability in Ispra, Italy.

  2. The JRC's European Reference Laboratory for Air Pollution (ERLAP) contributes to the development and implementation of European Air Quality Directives.

    Acronym: ERLAP
  3. The INDOORTRON Facility is a 30m 3 walk-in environmental chamber permitting precise control of parameters such as temperature, relative humidity, air quality and exchange rate. Within its large working space, it is possible to measure emissions from equipment, determine the release dynamics of materials, test models that predict pollutant concentrations, evaluate the efficiency of air-cleaning devices and carry out human exposure studies.

  4. The JRC EMEP Monitoring station monitors concentrations of carbon monoxide, ozone, secondary aerosol precursors, and particulate matter in the air.

    Acronym: EMEP Monitoring station
