  2. Photovoltaic (PV) modules convert photons from the sun’s rays into electricity, which can either be stored or fed into the electricity grid. It is a very promising technological option to shift towards a decarbonised energy supply. With its European Solar Test Installation (ESTI), the JRC assesses the performance of new and improved photovoltaic devices and performs pre-normative research. (June 2013)

The GreenLight Programme is a voluntary programme managed by the Joint Research Centre encouraging non-residential electricity consumers (public and private) referred to as Partners, to commit towards the European Commission to install energy-efficient lighting technologies in their facilities when it is profitble and lighting quality is maintained or improved.
