Exploring ASEM sustainable connectivity: What brings Asia and Europe together?

Abstract:
The present report was produced at the initiative of the European Union with the aim of providing a scientific-based contribution to the policy discussions on connectivity in the framework of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM). The key findings are: i) connectivity can help achieving Sustainable Development Goals, but challenges lie ahead; ii) political and institutional links can make a significant and cost-efficient contribution to enhanced connectivity outcomes; iii) every country has something to offer and to learn from each other, and; iv) ties within ASEM are stronger than with the rest of the world, but opportunities exist to further strengthen Asia-Europe cooperation. The analyses in the report are complemented by the ASEM Sustainable Connectivity Portal, an interactive online tool for exploring connectivity links and sustainability performance in ASEM.
