Abstract: Recent yearshavewitnessedasurgeofinterestincomputationalmethodsforaffect,rangingfromopinionmining,tosubjectivity detection, tosentimentandemotionanalysis.Thisarticlepresentsabriefoverviewofthelatesttrendsinthefieldanddescribesthe manner inwhichthearticlescontainedinthespecialissuecontributetotheadvancementofthearea.Finally,wecommentonthe current challengesandenvisageddevelopmentsofthesubjectivityandsentimentanalysisfields,aswellastheirapplicationtoother Natural LanguageProcessingtasksandrelateddomains.
