What is the difference between a Contract Staff member and an Auxiliary Contract Staff member?
There are two categories of Contract Agent. The first category is referred to as contract staff (ex-type 3a) and covers those staff members who are recruited to work:
- in Commission departments
- in the Commission’s administrative offices, EPSO, the Commission's representations and European Union delegations.
A contract staff member is typically engaged for an initial period of two years and for an initial period of three years in a delegation or Commission representation. If the contract is renewed, the duration of the contract shall not be less than one year. Any subsequent renewal shall be for an indefinite period.
The second category is referred to as auxiliary contract staff (ex-type 3b) and covers those staff members who are recruited to work in the Commission. Members of the auxiliary contract staff are typically engaged for an initial period of one year. If the contract is renewed, the duration of the contract shall as a general rule be two years.
At the JRC, Auxiliary Contract Staff are recruited in function groups II, III and IV whereas Contract Staff are recruited in function group I.Keywords:
