As the science and knowledge service of the European Commission, the Joint Research Centre's mission is to support EU policies with independent evidence throughout the whole policy cycle.
In the context of the Enlargement and Integration Action , the JRC-based European Reference Laboratory for GM Food and Feed (EURL GMFF) will organise an International Workshop on Harmonisation of GMO Detection and Analysis.
The workshop addresses researchers and policy-makers involved in GMO control and analysis and aims at stimulating the harmonisation of GMO analysis between the EU and its trade partners. To this end the participants will be updated on the EU legal framework on GMOs, the current situation in relation to analytical control methods, and the experience derived from the European Network of GMO Laboratories (ENGL) .
The workshop is a follow-up to previous workshops organised by the EU-RL GMFF in the region. It is assumed that the participants have already a good basic understanding of the matter, and therefor emphasis will be put on developments during the recent years with regard to the detection, identification and quantification of GMOs in food and feed.
The participants will be informed on up-to date and forthcoming analytical techniques that enable the GMO control laboratories of the EU-Member States to maintain their high standards and to cope with the increasing number and complexity of the GMOs that enter the world market and global trade.
