JRC at ESOF 2014

ESOF 2014, Copenhagen, 21-26 June

As the service responsible for scientific support to EU policies within the European Commission, the JRC is fully involved in the 6th edition of the EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF), held in Copenhagen on 21-26 June 2014. In line with the theme of ESOF2014 – 'Science Building Bridges' – this year the JRC's participation is guided by the motto 'bridging science and policy'.

JRC scientists lead and animate discussions on the role of science as a key element to finding solutions to global challenges in today's complex world. JRC leaders and top researchers also bring in their outstanding scientific experience in debates organised by other high level organisations.

Background information on ESOF

The EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF), a platform created by Euroscience, is the biennial pan-European meeting dedicated to scientific research and innovation. It is Europe’s largest forum for promoting scientific excellence and sharing scientific knowledge.

ESOF is a unique opportunity for leading scientists, young researchers, students, entrepreneurs, policymakers, journalists and the general public to discuss new discoveries and debate the direction that research is taking in all the sciences.

JRC sessions

The JRC will take part part in 6 scientific sessions, which illustrate its role as an active player in the global arena and its multidisciplinary competence. These workshops and panels cover a variety of topics, including urbanisation in the 21st century, fiscal austerity and economic growth, detection of food fraud, socio-economic issues and raw materials supply as well as the use of social incentives to encourage children to do more physical activity. With their focus on finding sustainable solutions through inclusive, international, and interdisciplinary efforts that are useful to society and help to enhance economic growth, these JRC symposia attracted high level speakers from various organisations and academia worldwide.
