    The European Commission has adopted the JRC's first Work Programme for 2014-2015 under Horizon 2020, the new EU strategy to boost research and innovation.

    The programme of the Joint Research Centre, the Commission's own science service, is aligned with the European Union's policy priorities, such as overcoming the economic crisis, encouraging the use of renewable energy and tackling climate change, and with other work programmes of the Commission under Horizon 2020.

    The Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST), the University of Malta and the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) have concluded today an agreement to host Maltese doctoral and post doctoral students in the various JRC Research Institutes. Areas of collaboration have been identified on the basis of mutual interest and include environment, biotechnology, information and communication technologies (ICT), energy, food safety and maritime affairs.

    Zürich/Brüssel, 16 März 2007. Das Joint Research Centre der Europäischen Kommission (JRC) stellte sich heute im Rahmen einer hochrangig besetzten Konferenz im Forum Chriesbach (Zürich/Dübendorf) erstmals in der Schweiz vor. Für Staatssekretär Charles Kleiber und JRC-Generaldirektor Roland Schenkel war das rege Interesse an der gemeinsam mit dem SBF, dem ETH-Rat und Euresearch organisierten Veranstaltung eine Bestätigung der guten Zusammenarbeit des JRC mit Schweizer Forschungseinrichtungen. Darüber hinaus wurde grosses Potential für eine Vertiefung der Kooperation im 7. EU-Forschungsrahmenprogramm aufgezeigt (2007-2013, dotiert mit 87 Milliarden Schweizer Franken).

    A majority of laboratories around the world are capable of effectively testing for the presence of melamine in food, according to a new study by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC). Results of the international study published this week show that levels of the harmful substance in food samples can be accurately measured by the majority of laboratories tested, suggesting that the global response to the Chinese contaminated milk scare of 2008 has been effective.

    The European Commission, represented by its Joint Research Centre (JRC), and the African Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD), covering 15 African countries, have today signed a Collaboration Agreement. The two organisations aim to co-operate in the field of agriculture and land cover monitoring to support food security and the management of natural resources in East Africa. EU Commissioner for Science and Research, Janez Poto nik, and Uganda's Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Daniel Omara Atubo, witnessed the signature in Nairobi (Kenya).

    Today, 28 November 2006, a high-level conference on EU-Finnish research perspectives took place at The Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT) in Espoo. The focus of the Information Day – hosted by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the VTT – was on two research areas of high relevance to Finland where new Collaborative Agreements were signed: Energy and the Environment & Health Impact of Chemicals. Future perspectives under the 2007 – 2013 EUR 54 billion Seventh Framework Programme for Research (FP7) were also discussed.

    A Collaboration Agreement signed today between the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements) and the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) aims to advance measurement science and foster greater confidence in the comparability of international measurements. Areas covered will range from bioanalysis (DNA measurements) and radionuclide metrology (environmental measurements), to food control and mechanical testing (e.g. toughness of steel).

    Today the State Secretary in Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sports, Radovan Fuchs, and the Director General of the Joint Research Centre (JRC), Roland Schenkel, opened an information event on collaboration possibilities within the 7th EU Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7), which covers the period 2007 to 2013 with a total budget of over 50 billion EUR. Nearly 300 representatives from the Croatian government and scientific community met with JRC experts who provided insights into the opportunities for participation in various EU research programmes and discussed ways to further enhance the collaboration between Croatian research bodies and the JRC on scientific and technical aspects of EU legislation.

    Berlin, 16. April 2007. Anlässlich des deutschen EU-Ratsvorsitzes veranstaltete die Gemeinsame Forschungsstelle der Europäischen Kommission (JRC) mit dem Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung heute eine hochrangig besetzte Tagung in Berlin. Die Teilnehmer aus Wissenschaft, Politik und Wirtschaft diskutierten die Zusammenarbeit des JRC mit deutschen Organisationen in aktuellen Bereichen wie Energie, Klimawandel und Verbraucherschutz. Darüber hinaus wurde ein Kooperationsabkommen mit dem Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung unterzeichnet und großes Potential für gemeinsame Projekte im 7. EU-Forschungsrahmenprogramm aufgezeigt (2007-2013).

    Grenoble (France), 19 October – The Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives (CEA) were the final signatories of a Memorandum of Understanding within the European TTO Circle, a network of the technology transfer offices of 21 of the largest public research organisations in Europe. The signature marks the official launch of the European TTO Circle, an initiative of the JRC with the overall aim to strengthen Europe's ability to create innovative products and services for the market.
