    The European Commission has adopted the JRC's first Work Programme for 2014-2015 under Horizon 2020, the new EU strategy to boost research and innovation.

    The programme of the Joint Research Centre, the Commission's own science service, is aligned with the European Union's policy priorities, such as overcoming the economic crisis, encouraging the use of renewable energy and tackling climate change, and with other work programmes of the Commission under Horizon 2020.

    The European Commission and scientists and policy makers from the 14 Danube Region countries have today launched six scientific clusters to support economic development in the region. The six clusters will focus on: water; land & soil; bio-energy; air; data exchange & harmonisation; and smart specialisation. Presented at a high-level meeting in Bratislava today, the clusters will provide scientific evidence to support the Danube Strategy, and will also serve to foster scientific cooperation across the region. The launch event today was attended amongst others by the Slovak Prime Minister H.E. Robert Fico and the Vice President of the European Commission, Maroš Šef ovi (MEMO/13/441).

    The European Commission's in-house science service, the Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) have signed today an agreement in Brussels to encourage, develop and facilitate scientific and cooperative activities in the fields of climate, weather, oceans and coasts.     Representatives from the "science support for the Danube" strategy signataires meet today in the Bulgarian Academy of Science to identify the key priorities of the scientific cooperation. This strategy was launched by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the Academies of Sciences of four countries in the Danube region in Budapest on 17 November 2011 during the Fifth edition of the World Science Forum. A letter of intent for closer cooperation was signed by the JRC, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS), the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS), the Romanian Academy (RA) and the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS).

    Washington, 29 November – At the Transatlantic Economic Council meeting the Director-General of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) has signed a Letter of Intent for closer cooperation with the US Department of Energy (DoE) on e-mobility and smart grids.

    The European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) has signed an agreement for closer cooperation with the Academies of Sciences of the Danube region Member States. The signatories are the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS), the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS), the Romanian Academy (RA) and the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS). The agreement, which comes in the context of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, was signed at the Fifth edition of the World Science Forum, organized by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in partnership with UNESCO, ICSU, and AAAS.

    Grenoble (France), 19 October – The Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives (CEA) were the final signatories of a Memorandum of Understanding within the European TTO Circle, a network of the technology transfer offices of 21 of the largest public research organisations in Europe. The signature marks the official launch of the European TTO Circle, an initiative of the JRC with the overall aim to strengthen Europe's ability to create innovative products and services for the market.

    The Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the European Academies Science Advisory Council (EASAC) have signed an agreement towards closer cooperation, in the name of the common goal to support policy making through independent scientific research.
