We are doing science for policy
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which employs scientists to carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy.
Vincenzo V. Rondinella is Head of the Hot Cells Unit at the Institute for Transuranium Elements.
The Hot Cells Unit carries out post-irradiation examination of conventional and advanced nuclear fuel. Safety-relevant properties and behaviour during normal and off-normal operating conditions, up to severe accident scenarios involving fuel degradation/melting, are investigated. The experimental studies cover nuclear fuel in the reactor and spent fuel during cooling, transportation and storage. The research is performed in partnership with research and/or safety organisations, regulators and industry.
In 1987 Vincenzo graduated in Nuclear Engineering at the University of Bologna. He then obtained a MSc (May 1991) and PhD (Jan 1994) at Rutgers University, USA. In 1994 he joined the JRC. He is co-author of more than 150 publications and has experience as lecturer at universities and schools.
