Matteo De Felice works at the Knowledge for the Energy Union Unit in the Directorate for Energy, Transport and Climate in Petten. His activity is currently focused on analysing and modelling the interactions between climate/weather and energy systems, with a particular attention to the water & energy nexus.
He received his PhD in Computer Engineering & Automation at the University of “Roma Tre” in 2011 with a thesis on the application of computational intelligence to energy-related problems.
Before joining the European Commission, he worked from 2007 to 2019 in the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA) coordinating and participating in many European research projects (FP7, H2020, Interreg) on climate services and on the application of climate forecasts to energy systems.
He has experience in statistical learning, power systems modelling and climate data science. He is author of more than 35 scientific articles in the international peer-reviewed literature.
