Marcelo Masera is Head of the Energy Security Unit in the Institute for Energy and Transport of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC).
He leads the group supporting European policies on the security of supply of power and gas. Marcelo Masera joined the European Commission in November 2000, and has been leader of the Security of Critical Networked Infrastructures group, with the mission of supporting European policies in Critical Information Infrastructure and cybersecurity aspects in other Critical Infrastructures. Among other activities, he manages the labs on Internet resilience and industrial networking security, together with the initiative aimed at creating a European Reference Network for Critical Infrastructure Protection.
His background is in electronics and electrical engineering, and has more than 25 years of professional experience in the fields of risk, safety and security. His research interests include security of networked systems and systems-of-systems, risk governance of infrastructures, security of industrial control and communication systems, and assurance cases for security.
