The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which employs scientists to carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy.
Leandro Elia is Research Economist at the European Commission, Directorate General Joint Research Centre in Ispra, Varese, Italy. He works for the Competence Centre on Microeconomic Evaluation (CC-ME). He received a PhD in Applied Economics from the University of Calabria in 2009 and a MSc in Economics from Birkbeck College, University of London in 2007. His research interests broadly fall into two categories: Labour Economics and Political Economy. His work is largely based on data analysis and applies rigorous econometric methods for identifying causal relationships. He uses both micro- and macro-econometric approaches to address research questions and he works with large-N longitudinal micro-data as well as cross-country/time-series database. He has published on a range of topics, including informal labour, temporary jobs, migration, international trade and investment in security, civil wars and peacekeeping.
