Elisabetta Vignati joined the European Commission in 1999. Since September 2012 she is the Head of the JRC's Air and Climate Unit.
Her unit works on many aspects of air pollution and climate with the aim of providing integrated analysis in support of EU air quality and climate policies and it is strongly involved in international research projects and observation networks.
Elisabetta is a physicist by training and graduated from the University of Milan, and obtained a PhD in Geophysics from Copenhagen University in 1999. Through her carrier at JRC she worked as a modeler developing and applied atmospheric models with the purpose of evaluating the impact of human activities on air quality and climate. She previously worked as researcher at the National Environmental Research Institute in Roskilde (DK) (1994-1999).
Elisabetta Vignati's research interests include Air Quality and Climate Modelling, Modelling Air pollution in Urban Areas and she coordinates the IES strategic activity on Sustainable Urban Living. She represents the EU as observer at the Task Force on black carbon and methane of the Artic Council.
