The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which employs scientists to carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy.
The 2007 MARS PAC annual conference - the thirteenth - will be held in collaboration with the Spanish Paying Agency FEGA, from 12 to 14 November at the Palacio de Congresos, Madrid.

On 19–20 November 2007 in Brussels the European Commission together with the European Parliament, Club of Rome, OECD and WWF will host a high-level conference with the objective of clarifying which indicators are most appropriate to measure progress, and how these can best be integrated into the decision-making process and taken up by public debate. The conference will bring together high-level experts and policy makers to address these critical issues. Over 300 people from economic, social and environmental spheres will attend.
This conference, by bringing together leading research practitioners and policy analysts, seeks to take stock of current understanding, explore new developments in the field, and provide an integrated picture accordingly. The main objectives of the conference are:
