We are doing science for policy
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which employs scientists to carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy.
The 2014 Conference on Big Data From Space, co-organised by the European Space Agency, the European Union Satellite Centre and the JRC, aims to bring together researchers, engineers, and users in the area of Big Data in the Space sector. The focus is on the whole data lifecycle, ranging from data acquisition by spaceborne and ground-based sensors to data management, analysis and exploitation in the domains of Earth Observation, Space Science, Space Engineering, Space Weather, etc.
The main purpose of this conference is to offer an opportunity for Member States Administrations, EU officials, Image Providers and contractors to meet and discuss particular problems or innovations concerning the management of the Common Agriculture Policy.
The JRC supports the 6th International Summer School on Measurement Science in Chemistry, held at the University Claude Bernard from 7 until 20 July. The Summer School is run by a consortium of 9 universities (one from Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Portugal and Slovenia, and three from Poland).
The summer school is provided by a consortium of nine European universities, with JRC as the mentoring organisation, who together deliver a Master’s Degree Programme offering education in measurement science. An important activity of the Measurement Science in Chemistry (MSC) Euromaster is the summer school – an intensive course focusing on quality assurance in measurement science in chemistry. This year 41 students from 12 different countries will participate (Belgium, Estonia, Finland, France, Malawi, Morocco, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Sri Lanka, Ukraine, Tunisia).
The European TTO Circle is an initiative of the JRC aiming at connecting the technology transfer offices of large European public research organisations (PROs).
The Joint Research Centre (JRC), jointly with IMEC and LERU, is organising a plenary meeting of the TTO Circle Initiative at the headquarters of IMEC in Leuven, Belgium.
Speakers from partner organisations will bring forward discussions for synergy based on the update on innovation and technology transfer policies.
The theme of this 8th meeting will be agri-food, in line with Expo Milano 2015's theme "Feeding the planet, energy for life". Practical examples and innovative initiatives will be presented to illustrate the potential of technology transfer in this area.
The 2012 edition of the Annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), one of the largest science events worldwide, will take place from 16 to 20 February 2012 in Vancouver, Canada. This year’s theme “Flattening the World: Building the Global Knowledge Society” will focus on the interconnected challenges related to global water supply, food security and sustainable energy.
The 2016 annual meeting of the JRC's community of practice on Big Data will focus on Big Data for Science and Policy.
The two-day event will explore the opportunities that Big Data provides for science and policy making and identify have it can be used to improve science-based policy support.
The Environmental Agency of the Republic of Slovenia is hosting the 4th Bridging the Gap Conference: Responding to Environmental Change – from Words to Deeds, which will take place in Slovenia in Portoro~ from 14 – 16 May, 2008.
