The objectives of the AfriGEOSS Symposium 2016 "Earth Observations for the Africa We Want" are to understand the role of Earth Observations in the implementation of African policies for sustainable development and to identify means and ways for mainstreaming Earth Observations in the decision-making processes in Africa. The symposium will also review the AfriGEOSS implementation approach and develop a detailed technical and financial programme and build synergies with GEO initiatives and international initiatives relevant to Africa with continental initiatives.

5th Meeting of the International Forum on LCA Cooperation is co-organised by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Brazilian Institute for Information in Science and Technology (IBICT). The first two days will be focused on global cooperation around LCA data, with the meeting of the Global Network of Interoperable LCA databases; this Network has the objective to facilitate the access to existing LCA databases for all LCA practitioners and does so by coordinating representatives from governments, academia, database owners, as well as from businesses and industries.

Following the publication of the European Commission’s new Circular Economy Package on 2 December 2015, the government of the Netherlands, in cooperation with the European Commission, will host the “Unwrapping the Package – towards a Circular Economy in Europe” conference as part of the Dutch EU presidency in 2016.

Stakeholders from business, civil society and public authorities across the EU will discuss challenges and opportunities for a circular economy in Europe and the impact of the new proposals from the EU Commission.

Shortly after the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals and just ahead of the 21st Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC in Paris (COP21), the JRC organises a joint event together with the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BBAW) to discuss the inequality dimension of climate change. The event will be opened by JRC Director-General Vladimír Šucha and Chair of the JRC Board of Governors Walter Mönig as well as Annette Grüters-Kieslich, Vice-President, Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, and include a keynote by Apollonia Miola, JRC Institute for Environment and Sustainability.

The JRC and the Italian LCA Network are organising a three-day scientific conference on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and food, to discuss the role of LCA and present the latest research on the EXPO 2015 topics.

It will be held on 6-7 October 2015 at Stresa on the Lake Maggiore, in Italy; on 8 October 2015, a special session will be held in the EU Pavilion at the EXPO 2015 site in Milan.
