The JRC's Chemical Safety and Alternative Methods Unit, which incorporates the EU Reference Laboratory for Alternatives to Animal Testing (EURL ECVAM), is organising a JRC Summer School from the 16-19 May 2017, at the JRC Ispra site, on the topic of "Alternative Approaches for Risk Assessment". The overall aim is to provide comprehensive training on state-of-the-art alternative (non-animal) approaches to predictive toxicology and to promote their use within modern chemical risk assessment practice.

The second scientific seminar of the Knowledge Centre for Disaster Risk Management: Science for Policy and Operations will take place in Rome, Italy, on 9-10 March 2017 and will gather around hundred inter-disciplinary experts on disaster management, early detection, forecasting, warning and risk assessment of natural and man-made disasters, in both the fields of civil protection and humanitarian aid.

The JRC and the Met Office are jointly organising a seminar on ‘Disaster Risk Management: Science for Policy and Operations’, which will address two key areas; the use of science in risk management, as input to the planning phase, and to the preparedness phase through Early Warning Systems (EWS). The first seminar in 2012 identified a small number of targeted areas where partnerships for knowledge sharing could benefit national and European level services to give positive impacts for communities at risk.
