We are doing science for policy
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which employs scientists to carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy.
Following the publication of the European Commission’s new Circular Economy Package on 2 December 2015, the government of the Netherlands, in cooperation with the European Commission, will host the “Unwrapping the Package – towards a Circular Economy in Europe” conference as part of the Dutch EU presidency in 2016.
Stakeholders from business, civil society and public authorities across the EU will discuss challenges and opportunities for a circular economy in Europe and the impact of the new proposals from the EU Commission.
This, the ninth edition of European Development Days, will be held in Brussels from 3-4 June 2015. 2015 is the European Year for Development (EYD2015) and European Development Days (EDD15) will be its flagship event. The focus for EDD15, organised by DG DEVCO, echoes the motto of the European Year for Development - ‘Our world, our dignity, our future’. This year’s programme will be structured around 4 themes and 12 topics.
The EGU General Assembly 2015 will bring together geoscientists from all over the world to one meeting covering all disciplines of the Earth, planetary and space sciences. The EGU aims to provide a forum where scientists, especially early career researchers, can present their work and discuss their ideas with experts in all fields of geoscience. The ninth GeoTHERM will be taking place in its meanwhile successfully established form at 5th + 6th March 2015. Within eight years the combination of trade fair and congress has become Europe's leading event for geothermal energy. This is where the dynamics and quality standards of shallow and deep geothermal energy can enjoy a perfect setting. Our IET colleagues, Andreas Uihlein and Bergur Sigfusson, will be giving a presentation and promoting JRC's latest report "JRC Geothermal Energy Status Report 2014".
The European Commission will host a high-level public conference on 'Land as a resource' in Brussels on 19 June 2014, with the objective of highlighting the importance of good land management to address European and global challenges, particularly in view of an increasing world population. It will also tackle the shortcomings of the current European land use model, including conflicting policy drivers.
The 2014 edition of Green Week, the biggest annual conference on European environment policy, will take place from 3 to 5 June at The Egg Conference Centre, Rue Bara, in Brussels.
