    The 17th International Symposium on Landscape Ecology, organised by the Institute of Landscape Ecology, Slovak Ecological Society and Constantine the Philosopher University, will be held in Nitra, Slovakia, from 27-29 May 2015.

    This symposium aims to explore the current concepts and trends in landscape ecology and the links to other landscape-related issues.

    JRC scientist Peter Vogt will give an oral presentation on latest JRC-research on landscape fragmentation assessment schemes.

    The Society for Conservation Biology (SCB), with Agropolis International and the French Foundation for Research on Biodiversity (FRB), will host the 27th International Congress for Conservation Biology (ICCB) and the 4th European Congress for Conservation Biology (ECCB) in Montpelier, France, from 2-6 August 2015.

    The joint meeting brings together the international community of conservation professionals to address conservation challenges and present new findings, initiatives, methods, tools and opportunities in conservation science and practice.

    The 7th annual Conference of the Ecosystem Services Partnership will be held in Costa Rica, from 8-12 September 2014.  The emphasis of this conference will be on the use of the ecosystem services concept at the local level, focussing on Latin America, and with a special emphasis on Costa Rica. The programme consists of a mix of plenary sessions, workshops, open topic sessions and special sessions, and several field trips will be orgnised to provide the opportunity to observe and discuss the practical application of ecosystem services.

    The Arctic Biodiversity Congress, organised by the Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna (CAFF) working group of the Arctic Council and the Norwegian Environment Agency (Miljødirektoratet), aims to promote the conservation and sustainable use of Arctic biodiversity through dialogue among scientists, policy-makers, government officials, industry, civil society and indigenous peoples.

    The 10th Conference of the Parties (COP-10) to the Convention on Biological Diversity started today in Nagoya, Japan. At the two-week long meeting the international community, including the EU, will be striving to agree on a post-2010 policy framework for preserving biodiversity. Scientists from the JRC Institute for Environment and Sustainability (IES) are taking part in this event to present their findings on soil biodiversity as well as on forest fragmentation and green infrastructure. € 3.3 billion invested in Europe in R&D on low carbon technologies
