    The international seminar in social life cycle assessment (LCA) of Montpellier is the fourth of this theme, the first of which took place in 2010 in Denmark.

    These scientific events assert the necessity of a specific research concerning the social evaluation within the framework of LCA. The purpose of these seminars is to review the recent developments of the various approaches dealing specifically with social LCA, without minimising what they owe to the environmental LCA.

    The ninth GeoTHERM will be taking place in its meanwhile successfully established form at 5th + 6th March 2015. Within eight years the combination of trade fair and congress has become Europe's leading event for geothermal energy. This is where the dynamics and quality standards of shallow and deep geothermal energy can enjoy a perfect setting. Our IET colleagues, Andreas Uihlein and Bergur Sigfusson, will be giving a presentation and promoting JRC's latest report "JRC Geothermal Energy Status Report 2014".

    Newly re-furbished facilities of the JRC's European Solar Test Installation (ESTI) in Ispra will be inaugurated on Monday 24 June 2013. The upgraded laboratories allow ESTI to assess the performance of new and improved photovoltaic (PV) devices, to perform pre-normative research and to help develop international standards.
