    The 17th International Symposium on Landscape Ecology, organised by the Institute of Landscape Ecology, Slovak Ecological Society and Constantine the Philosopher University, will be held in Nitra, Slovakia, from 27-29 May 2015.

    This symposium aims to explore the current concepts and trends in landscape ecology and the links to other landscape-related issues.

    JRC scientist Peter Vogt will give an oral presentation on latest JRC-research on landscape fragmentation assessment schemes.

    The first AMESD (African Monitoring of the Environment for Sustainable Development) Forum will take place in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (1-4 Dec.’09) on the theme “Towards a Pan African Partnership and Networking for the monitoring of the Environment by Satellite in Africa”. It will be organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Conservation of Nature and Tourism, and the International Commission for Congo-Ubangui-Sangha Basin. The environmental monitoring "e-station" developed within the JRC Institute for Environment and Sustainability (IES) will be demonstrated for the first time to the African users.

    The 20th Latin American Congress of Soil Science, be organised by the Latin American Soil Science Society (SLCS) and the Peruvian Soil Science Society (SPCS), will be held in Cuzco, Peru, from 9-15 November 2014. The Congress aims to be a platform for scientific and cultural exchanges between researchers, teachers, students, professionals and anyone interested in the conservation of soil and water in Latin America.


    The JRC plans to present the new Soil Atlas of Latin America at this event.

    The World Congress of Soil Science (WCSS) has been held on a quadrennial basis since 1927 as a scientific meeting in the area of soil science. the 20th WCSS is expected to gather over 2 500 participants, from science and industry, from more than 100 countries around the world. A wide range of scientific programs and stimulating social activities will be organised under the theme, “Soils Embrace Life and Universe”. The JRC plans to have a stand at the congress.

    The Society for Conservation Biology (SCB), with Agropolis International and the French Foundation for Research on Biodiversity (FRB), will host the 27th International Congress for Conservation Biology (ICCB) and the 4th European Congress for Conservation Biology (ECCB) in Montpelier, France, from 2-6 August 2015.

    The joint meeting brings together the international community of conservation professionals to address conservation challenges and present new findings, initiatives, methods, tools and opportunities in conservation science and practice.

    In 2005 the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO), together with the Oceanography Society (TOS), organised an International Ocean Research Conference to discuss the expected developments in marine sciences over the next decade. Now, almost ten years later, in light of the advances in ocean sciences and technologies and also after important science-policy developments, this new International Ocean Research Conference will discuss and plan the coming decade of international collaboration in marine sciences and technology.

    The 36th International Symposium on Remote Sensing of Environment (ISRSE), organised by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in partnership with the International Center for Remote Sensing of Environment (Tucson, Arizona), will take place on May 11-15, 2015 in Berlin, Germany. The overall theme of the symposium is the use of Earth Observation systems and related Remote Sensing techniques for understanding and managing the Earth‘s environment and resources.
