  1. 15 Jun 2010

The 10th anniversary of the JRC On-Site Laboratories will be celebrated on 15 June at the Schloss Karlsruhe, and a programme for the media is organised on the day before at the JRC Institute for Transuranium Elements (ITU). This event will give the possibility to inform the public about the safety and reliability of the nuclear fuel cycle and the latest developments in the field of nuclear safeguards. Experts from the ITU and the Commission's Energy Directorate-General will show examples of this important work, to demonstrate how, for example, environmental sampling techniques work in practice and how inspectors are trained.

  2. 26 Jun 2013

This will be the tenth of a series of well-established workshops on experimental, theoretical, simulation, and applied aspects of the thermophysical behaviour of matter in the millisecond to picosecond time regimes. It will include, among others, rapid resistive or inductive heating (volume), pulsed laser heating (surface), and levitation techniques. Presentations regarding new experimental techniques in the area of subsecond thermophysics are always welcome. The emphasis will be on measurements of thermophysical properties at high temperatures.

The Joint Research Centre, Institute for Transuranium Elements is organising in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the 19th International QUENCH Workshop, to be held at the KIT, Campus North, November 19-21, 2013.
The nuclear safety related workshop is supported by the JRC Enlargement and Integration Action, as well as by the Alliance for Competence in Nuclear Technology, Germany.

The 1st Advanced Training Course on Illicit Trafficking and Consequence Management with NUCLEONICA is taking place in the JRC Institute for Transuranium Elements (ITU), Karlsruhe from the 22-24th April 2009. The course is aimed at persons who provide technical support (measurements, interpreting results, drawing conclusions, making recommendations) for the actions in response to illicit trafficking incidents and radiological events. Participants from Candidate Countries, Potential Candidate Countries, and ENP Countries are physicists, radio-chemists, health physicists, technical experts from national law enforcement agencies and regulatory authorities, who may be involved in the assessment of such events. The purpose of the course is to enhance and support nuclear related decision-making as well as provide formal academic principles in nuclear science.

    13 Mar 2015

The aim of this workshop is to present the technical/scientific results of what has been achieved in 20 years' time and the experience in operating it, and to exchange information on new or existing monitoring techniques.

  7. 27 May 2008
    29 May 2008

The 2008 ESARDA Annual Meeting, held in Luxembourg from 27 to 29 May 2008, focused on the new safeguards approaches in a more global context. The participants, among them many Euratom nuclear inspectors and recognised actors and practitioners of safeguards, highly valued first-hand insights into current issues and their effect on safeguards and non proliferation. Prof. Thomas Fanghänel, Director of the JRC Institute for Transuranium Elements (ITU), presented the research activities of the JRC in this area, as well as its co-operation and training activities.
