    Hosted by the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society, the International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium 2015 (IGARSS 2015) will be held from 26-31 July 2015 at the Convention Centre in Milan, Italy.

    The conference, organised by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society and the IGARSS Organising Committee, is the world's premier symposium on the subject of remote sensing.     The second edition of the FOSS4G Europe: Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial Open Innovation for Europe Conference will be held at the Politecnico di Milano in Como, Italy, 15-17 July 2015. A day of workshops will precede the conference on 14 July 2015, and a code sprint will close the event on 18 July 2015.

    The Conference aims to bring together FOSS4G users and developers worldwide and foster closer interactions with and amongst European communities in order to share ideas for improving geodata, software and applications openess.

    In 2014, the European regional branch of the UN Global Geospatial Information Management (UNGGIM Europe) was set up. One of its main objectives is to build harmonised reference data for Europe, in order to contribute to sustainable development goals.

    The efforts of EU countries in the implementation of the INSPIRE Directive are a useful starting point for setting out to achieve the UNGGIM Europe objectives. However, EU legislation is not mandatory in Eastern European partnership countries, whose specificities need to be taken into account.
