    The 20th annual session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 10th session of the Meeting of the Parties (CMP) to the 1997 Kyoto Protocol (the protocol having been developed under the UNFCCC's charter) will be held from 1 to 12 December 2014. COP 20/CMP 10 will be hosted by the Government of Peru, in Lima, Peru.

    The international seminar in social life cycle assessment (LCA) of Montpellier is the fourth of this theme, the first of which took place in 2010 in Denmark.

    These scientific events assert the necessity of a specific research concerning the social evaluation within the framework of LCA. The purpose of these seminars is to review the recent developments of the various approaches dealing specifically with social LCA, without minimising what they owe to the environmental LCA.

    In 2005 the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO), together with the Oceanography Society (TOS), organised an International Ocean Research Conference to discuss the expected developments in marine sciences over the next decade. Now, almost ten years later, in light of the advances in ocean sciences and technologies and also after important science-policy developments, this new International Ocean Research Conference will discuss and plan the coming decade of international collaboration in marine sciences and technology.

    The 2014 International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) World Parks Congress will take place from 12-19 November 2014 in Sydney, Australia.


    The IUCN World Parks Congress is a landmark global forum on protected areas, which is held every ten years. As the world’s most influential gathering of people involved in protected area management, it sets the global agenda for the following decade.

    At the Congress, the IES will present the latest developments of BIOPAMA, DOPA and ACP Observatory related tools and services.

    The European Commission will host a high-level public conference on 'Land as a resource' in Brussels on 19 June 2014, with the objective of highlighting the importance of good land management to address European and global challenges, particularly in view of an increasing world population. It will also tackle the shortcomings of the current European land use model, including conflicting policy drivers.

    The conference will be opened by Janez Potočnik, Environment Commissioner, with a key-note speech by Lester E. Brown, Director of the Earth Policy Institute (Washington, D.C.).
