    The international seminar in social life cycle assessment (LCA) of Montpellier is the fourth of this theme, the first of which took place in 2010 in Denmark.

    These scientific events assert the necessity of a specific research concerning the social evaluation within the framework of LCA. The purpose of these seminars is to review the recent developments of the various approaches dealing specifically with social LCA, without minimising what they owe to the environmental LCA.

    The American Center for Life Cycle Assessment (ACLCA) will host the Ninth International Life Cycle Assessment of Foods Conference in San Francisco, California, from 8-10 October 2014. This dynamic event, being held for the first time outside of Europe, unites the scientific community with food industry professionals, researchers, academics and policy makers and is seen as an opportunity to enhance US agriculture through sustainability.

    The Austrian, German and Slovak Commissions for UNESCO are organising an international workshop entitled “Sustainability Science in Central and Eastern Europe”, to be held in Bratislava from 15-17 June this year.

    The workshop aims to promote 'sustainability science' in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), particularly in Austria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia.

    European and American policymakers, researchers and industry representatives on Monday 21 November discussed closer scientific co-operation in support of clean energy and sustainable mobility. The high level Brussels-held seminar was jointly organised by the JRC and the US Mission to the European Union. Titled ‘Building a Transatlantic Scientific Bridge’, it was timely scheduled ahead of next week’s two key events: the US-EU summit and the Transatlantic Economic Council in Washington, which will feature science and electro-mobility high on the co-operation agenda.
