    The SEURAT-1 research initiative on the replacement of in vivo repeated dose systemic toxicity testing will keep their 5th annual meeting 21-22 January 2015 in Barcelona. The main subjects of the meeting are: the proof-of-concept case studies, proving that toxicity prediction and chemical safety assessment can be based on alternative methods, and the many new methods developed by the SEURAT-1 partners.  SEURAT-1 is co-financed by the European Commission (FP7) and Cosmetics Europe.

    Excessive alcohol consumption is a widespread problem in many European countries. Evidence-based behaviour-change interventions can make an important contribution towards reducing harmful use of alcohol. In collaboration with the Directorate General Health and Consumers, the Joint Research Centre (JRC) organises this workshop dedicated to new behaviour change interventions targeting alcohol consumption.

    Towards a harmonised cancer information system in Europe

    The European Network of Cancer Registries (ENCR) Scientific Meeting and General Assembly provide the opportunity for all European cancer registries to have a face-to-face meeting. The purpose of the event is for the registries to share research findings, discuss cancer registration issues, exchange ideas and best practices, network, present epidemiological work based on cancer registry data and finally meet their representatives, the ENCR Steering Committee.

    On November 14, 2014 the European Union Reference Laboratory for Feed Additives (EURL-FA) celebrates its 10th anniversary with colleagues from DG Health and Consumers of the European Commission, the European Food Safety Authority, the National Reference Laboratories and industry representatives. A review of the activities during the last 10 years will be presented and feedback from all main stakeholders will be given. The event will also give the opportunity to exchange views and expectations on the activities of the EURL-FA in the future, from a policy support perspective.

    The European Union Reference Laboratory for Feed Additives (EURL-FA) hosted at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM) in Geel is composed of two branches, which are the EURL-FA Authorisation and the EURL-FA Control. The EURL-FA is supported for these two tasks by two networks of National Reference Laboratories (NRLs). The organisation of the workshop foresees that the two networks have separate sessions to address the topics that are specific to their remit, but also joint sessions to discuss issues that both networks have in common.
