    The 2015 Annual World Bank Conference on Land and Poverty will take place 23 – 27 March 2015 at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington D.C., with the theme ‘Linking Land Tenure and Use for Shared Prosperity’.  The use of satellite imagery and geographic information systems has garnered special attention. Within the session on ‘Using geospatial data to improve land use and tenure’, JRC scientist Alan Belward will present a paper describing the role of the EU’s Earth Observation programme Copernicus as a means of obtaining and distributing land use information.

    In 2007 the European Union (EU) established the Global Climate Change Alliance (GCCA) to strengthen dialogue and cooperation on climate change issues. When it started in 2008, the Alliance was working in just four pilot countries. Today, it supports more than 50 programmes in 38 countries, 8 regions and sub-regions and at the global level. In 2014, a new phase of the GCCA, the GCCA+ Flagship Initiative began, in line with the European Commission’s new Multiannual Financial Framework (2014-2020).

    The workshop aims to bring together technical experts representing providers of reference data from enlargement and integration (E&I) countries which belong to the Danube region, and thus fall within the scope of the Danube Reference Data and Services Infrastructure (DRDSI). The DRDSI is an infrastructure that the JRC is establishing in order to facilitate access to reference data for macro-regional development.

    The third plenary session of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services' (IPBES) will be held from 12 to 17 January 2015, in Bonn, Germany.

    The IPBES was established in April 2012, as an independent intergovernmental body open to all member countries of the United Nations. It is the leading intergovernmental body for assessing the state of the planet's biodiversity, its ecosystems and the essential services they provide to society.

    The 20th annual session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 10th session of the Meeting of the Parties (CMP) to the 1997 Kyoto Protocol (the protocol having been developed under the UNFCCC's charter) will be held from 1 to 12 December 2014. COP 20/CMP 10 will be hosted by the Government of Peru, in Lima, Peru.
