The Ninth Summer school on sensitivity analysis has been organised by the Joint Research Centre and the University of Naples Federico II. The school has been held in Capri Island at the Congress Centre of the University of Naples.
Organised by the International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE), this summit offers a strong opportunity to exchange knowledge, develop research cooperation, discuss important issues and continue to improve the scientific field of Digital Earth. Under the theme 'Digital Earth in the Era of Big Data', it aims to provide an international platform to focus on the application and technologies of Digital Earth for new developments and advances of big data.
Thousands of vessels cross EU waters and hundreds enter into EU ports every day, generating an overwhelming amount of tracking data and reports that make it possible to disguise illegal operations. Detecting steadily changing deceptive behaviours at sea is becoming like trying to find a needle in a haystack and calls for advanced automatic and adaptive tools to discover useful information from the data.

The 6th Annual Conference of the Global Flood Partnership will take place in Ispra on 29, 30 June and 1 July. Fifty flood experts from organisations like the JRC, NASA, ECMWF, the World Food Program, the Red Cross and Red Crescent as well as from countries like Brasil, Mozambique, India, Sri Lanka, will convene to discuss the latest developments on flood forecasting, recording, and flood risk mitigation. The meeting is co-organised with the Red Cross/Red Crescent Climate Centre and Dartmouth Flood Observatory.
The JRC is organising, in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs and EUROPOL, a workshop about Virtual Currencies in the context of fight against fraud and counterfeiting of non-cash means of payments. This workshop aims at providing a scientific support to the forthcoming revision of the 2001 Council Decision on combating fraud and counterfeiting of non-cash means of payment.
