    Excessive alcohol consumption is a widespread problem in many European countries. Evidence-based behaviour-change interventions can make an important contribution towards reducing harmful use of alcohol. In collaboration with the Directorate General Health and Consumers, the Joint Research Centre (JRC) organises this workshop dedicated to new behaviour change interventions targeting alcohol consumption.

    Vaccination rates in Europe have been declining for the past decade as an increasing number of citizens believe that some infectious diseases such as measles and rubella are eliminated. However, as these diseases did not disappear, the decreasing participation rates in vaccination programmes have created the risk of future epidemics.

    Towards a harmonised cancer information system in Europe

    The European Network of Cancer Registries (ENCR) Scientific Meeting and General Assembly provide the opportunity for all European cancer registries to have a face-to-face meeting. The purpose of the event is for the registries to share research findings, discuss cancer registration issues, exchange ideas and best practices, network, present epidemiological work based on cancer registry data and finally meet their representatives, the ENCR Steering Committee.

    Statistical methods for descriptive analysis of population-based cancer data have considerably progressed, also due to the increasing availability of cancer registries data. These methodological advances should be systematically applied, when possible and appropriate, to descriptive epidemiology and current reporting of cancer data.

    Objectives of the Meeting

    The satellite meeting of WP9 of the European Partnership for Action Against Cancer (EPAAC) reviewed the status of statistical methods for the analysis of population-based data.

    The JRC organised a workshop on development of evidence-based guidelines focusing on GRADE, which is a method for grading the quality of evidence and the strength of recommendations in healthcare. The aim was to create a common knowledge platform for JRC and other EC colleagues. The workshop was also intended as a template for possible future trainings dedicated to external stakeholders.
