JRC News

  1. 4 Dec 2012

From 3 to 5 December, the European Network of GMO Laboratories (ENGL) meets at the JRC Ispra site to discuss emerging issues related to GMO analysis but also celebrate its official 10th Anniversary.

  2. 27 Aug 2014

Accreditation plays a crucial role both in the EU internal market as well as in trade with third countries, e.g. in the context of the EU Neighbourhood Policy. This is exactly the reason why the JRC has fostered education in this area and has been instrumental in creating a consortium of universities which offer an international master programme in Measurement Science in Chemistry, which received a Euromaster quality label.

  3. 25 Nov 2014

JRC scientists developed a formalism to propagate both the correlated and uncorrelated uncertainty components of time-of-flight cross section data generated in the Geel site linear accelerator (GELINA) hosted by the JRC-Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements.

  4. 1 Mar 2013

The JRC-IRMM presents the outcome of a feasibility study for a first reference material to be produced to standardise autoimmune disease testing.

  5. 20 Mar 2014

By releasing the certified reference material ERM®-CD200, the JRC is providing a tailored quality control tool for laboratories measuring elements in seaweed or similar matrices; a means to control measurements in the frame of the European Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC). The material could also be used in assessing compliance of harvested seaweed for use in food and feed with the limits of contaminants given in Directive 2002/32/EC (amended by 1275/2013/EC).

  6. 13 Jan 2011

A study carried out by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) has opened the door to replacing the current standard method for measuring bromate in drinking water with an improved method, which is more suitable for the tighter current legislative limits.

  7. 27 Sep 2013

With the close cooperation of the US mission to the EU, the JRC organised a high-level meeting on Thursday 26 September in order to examine the scientific potential to support eco-industries and technologies on both sides of the Atlantic.

  8. 19 Jul 2013

The IRMM is renewing the appointment of experts for Certification Advisory Panels (CAPs), which participate in the review process during the certification of reference materials.

  9. 18 Jul 2014

JRC scientists observed some challenges using Wels catfish to monitor the quality of river and other surface waters. It may be important to consider the type (species and size) of fish when deriving to valid conclusions on environmental quality.

  10. 27 Jun 2014

This is the question that JRC scientists have recently addressed when using, for the first time, an infrared camera coupled with a freeze dryer in order to improve an important reference material processing technique.
