    The JRC and the European Commission's Research Directorate-General, in co-operation with the Ministry of Science of the Republic of Serbia, have organised a research information event in Belgrade on 12th June 2007. The objective of this event was to inform Serbian R&D organisations and researchers about the opportunities offered by the newly launched 7th Framework Programme (FP7), in particular with regard to collaborative activities and mobility of researchers. Examples were presented in the areas of environment, food, agriculture, and nuclear safety and safeguards. The intention is to encourage dialogue, identify potentially interested partners and pave the way for further collaboration within FP7.

    The Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education is organising today a conference on co-operation between the JRC and Polish research institutions. The event, which takes place at Wroclaw University of Technology, aims to inform the JRC management and Board of Governors of current trends in Poland's R&D policy and scientific activities in the Wroclaw area and present JRC activities to current and potential Polish partner organisations. It has been opened by the Polish Minister of Science and Higher Education (Prof. MichaelB SeweryDski), the Mayor of Wroclaw (Mr RafaB Dutkiewicz) and Prof. Jerzy Buzek, MEP and former Prime Minister of Poland.

    A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on 5 July 2007 during a JRC Board of Governors meeting taking place in the city of Wroclaw, Poland. The agreement outlines enhanced co-operation measures between Turkish research organisations represented by TÜB0TAK and the Joint Research Centre.

    Today, the President of Eurolab, Jean-Luc Laurent, and the Director of the JRC Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM), Alejandro Herrero, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Geel, Belgium.

    The European Commission and VINNOVA organise an Information day of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Stockholm on 8 November 2007. At the Information Day participants from the scientific, political and corporate world will discuss the cooperation between the JRC and Swedish research organisations, centred on three main themes: Environment and Sustainability, Nuclear Waste Management and Energy, and ICT.

    A collaboration agreement was signed today in Geel, Belgium, between the JRC Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM) and the Chemical Science and Technology Laboratory (CSTL) of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (USA). The agreement will advance the development and availability of international measurement standards in the fields of chemistry, life sciences, and emerging technologies.

    Director of the JRC Institute for Energy (IE) Giovanni De Santi and Prof Józef DubiDski from the Central Mining Institute (GIG), Katowice, Poland have taken the first step towards intensifying the collaboration between the respective Institutes with the signature of a letter of intent.     On 18 January 2008, the President of the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), Jörg Ziercke, visited the JRC Institute for Transuranium Elements (ITU). The main purpose of the meeting was to exchange views on investigation of seized nuclear material and to discuss new projects related to illicit incidents involving nuclear and radioactive material.

    The JRC signed today, 29 January 2008, a collaboration agreement with UNEP, represented by Ms Sylvie Motard, Head of UNEP Liaison Office. The overall aim of this agreement is to contribute more effectively in understanding and resolving issues concerning the global environment, leading to more effective management techniques and strategies. Efforts will focus particularly in strengthening and further developing and sustaining global and regional partnerships and networks in the field of environmental information, promoting mutual interest and co-operation in understanding and resolving environmental issues on a global and continental scale and in supporting international capacity building within the framework of the Bali Strategic Plan for Technology Support and Capacity-building.

    The JRC participated in the Enterprise Europe Network Launch Conference on 7 February 2008 in Brussels. The event provided an opportunity to publicise JRC's technology portfolio and to demonstrate JRC's commitment to transferring its innovative results to high-tech SMEs throughout Europe.
