    A habitat model, developed by the JRC and partner scientists, reveals that the main hake nurseries are mostly located from February to June in the northern Mediterranean, on the seabed in depths from 50 to 250 m. Such knowledge can guide decisions for sustainable fisheries management, such as the closure of fishing areas allowing hake stocks to recover from overfishing.

    The JRC has recently published a report which provides guidelines to implement water reuse in Europe, and analyses the associated technical, environmental, health and socioeconomic challenges to such reuse.

    Given the lack of formal guidelines at European level to address the reuse of treated wastewater, the report compares relevant national and international measures. It also provides a risk-based management approach, and identifies needs for and barriers to technological innovation and regulation.

    On 11 December 2014, in Rome, the Joint Research Centre signed a Collaboration Agreement with the Italian RSE SpA (Ricerca sul Sistema Energetico). The signature ceremony took place at the 7th Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan) conference.

    JRC scientists have developed a new method to assess and improve the resource efficiency of energy-using products, with a particular focus on their end-of-life. Most notably, results are being used for the revision of EU Ecodesign implementing measure for electronic displays (TV and computer screens) and the revision of EU Ecolabel criteria for television sets and personal and notebook computers.

    On 11-14 November 2014, at the European Parliament in Brussels, the EU officially presented its planned activities for the World Exhibition (Expo) in Milan in 2015. The JRC is coordinating the EU's presence and participation in the EXPO.

A round table discussion organised by the JRC focused on the example of the flying car and explored the role science can play in horizon scanning, regulation and standardisation.
