    From the 27th June as part of the 300th Birthday of the City of Karlsruhe, EFFEKTE 2015 transforms the palace (schloss) gardens of Karlsruhe into a huge science experience where visitors can enjoy live experiments, demonstrations, science shows and a varied stage program. Taking part in the festival will be a variety of scientific institutions, municipal buildings, cultural institutions and retail stores hosting various events on the subject of science and research.

    The JRC, together with Nucleonica GmbH, has released a new edition of the Karlsruhe Nuclide Chart, an extended periodic table which displays all known isotopes of every element and their radioactive data.

    The Futuris programme (Euronews) offers the latest news on technical & scientific research projects across Europe; in a series of small video episodes and web reports. The latest in the series 'atomic detectives' explores the EUSECTRA facility at JRC-ITU and demonstrates the work of the scientists in combatting nuclear criminal activity.

    Registration Now Open! - Every two years the JRC-ITU organises Summer Schools on Actinide Science at its laboratories in Karlsruhe. Young researchers from all over the world have participated in lectures, laboratory visits and demonstrations. The 8th Summer School will be held from the 15th to the 19th of June 2015.

    The JRC has released a new report giving a comprehensive overview of its research on nuclear safety and security, including their policy background and context. The nuclear activities of the JRC are aimed at supporting the implementation of EU legislation, giving priority to the highest standards for nuclear safety and security in the Union, and internationally.

    The recent findings by JRC scientists and other colleagues on the effect of the weapon tests fallout in a terrestrial environment are important to evaluate the risks associated to other kinds of nuclear contamination, like nuclear accidents and releases from nuclear facilities and nuclear waste disposal repositories. The use of more sensitive technologies in environmental sciences is expected to expand further in the foreseeable future.
