    The Joint Research Centre (JRC) produced the first two uranium reference materials certified for the production date for validation of methods.

    To understand whether laboratories can accurately determine the date of the production of uranium, the Joint Research Centre (JRC) organised a proficiency test through its specific inter-laboratory comparison programme REIMEP. The outcome of this exercise confirmed the participating laboratories' capability to perform this type of measurement.

The papers were presented at the 3rd International Workshop on Nuclear Data Covariances, April 28 - May 1, 2014, Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA.

    The radionuclide 209Po is the principal radiochemical tracer used worldwide to monitor polonium, an element known for its high chemical and radiological toxicity. Measurements performed in the radionuclide metrology laboratory of the JRC show that the reference value of the 209Po half-life used over the last 50 years is in error by 20%.

    The 3rd Neutron Resonance Analysis School was hosted at the EC-JRC-IRMM in Geel, Belgium from 15 to 19 December 2014. The school was organised within the FP7 project CHANDA (Solving Challenges in Nuclear Data for the Safety of European Nuclear Facilities), and in collaboration with the University of Manchester, IAEA, OECD/NEA and CEA.

    JRC-IRMM re-characterised and issued new certificates for the entire series of uranium hexafluoride certified reference materials (IRMM-019 to IRMM-029). These CRMs represent a unique set of reference materials to be used in process control, nuclear material accountancy and safeguards verification measurements in enrichment plants.

    JRC scientists developed a formalism to propagate both the correlated and uncorrelated uncertainty components of time-of-flight cross section data generated in the Geel site linear accelerator (GELINA) hosted by the JRC-Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements.

    JRC scientists published a report describing a novel non-destructive method for the elemental and isotopic analysis of materials and objects. In the report the basic principles of Neutron Resonance Analysis Transmission (NRTA) and Neutron Resonance Capture Analysis (NRCA) are explained.

    The workshop THEORY-3 was jointly organised by JRC-IRMM and the National Institute of Physics and Nuclear Engineering (NIPHNE) - Horia-Holubei, Bucharest, Romania. The workshop took place in Opatija, Croatia, on 16-18 September 2014. It is the third in a series of workshops financed within the JRC Enlargement and Integration programme.
